Additional Information

  • In Illinois, you can apply to become a public adjuster if you are over 18 years old.

    To get your license, you must do five things:

    1. $250 application fee to Illinois Department of Insurance

    2. $20,000 surety bond

    3. Fingerprint verification document from Live Scan

    4. Tailored version of your proposed public adjuster contract

    5. Pass the Illinois public adjuster license 100-question exam with a 70% passing rate

  • The Illinois public adjuster license examination covers four principal areas:

    1. Illinois legal code relating to insurance adjusters

    2. Property insurance terms and concepts

    3. Major policy forms and coverages

    4. Building construction terminology

    The exam is administered by Pearson View. Students can take the exam at multiple testing centers - even online.

    The exam fee is $103 and a 70% score is required for passing. You’ll choose the date, time, and location of the Illinois exam. You will have 2 hours and 45 minutes to complete the exam. English and Spanish versions of the exam are available.

    To sit for your examination, you will need to register with Pearson VUE and schedule an exam at any one of its many testing centers. You can also view and download a license candidate handbook that will provide more information about your exam and other state licensing exams.

  • When you arrive at the testing center, you will be asked to show a government-issued ID and second ID such as a credit card that contains your signature.

    You will be prohibited from bringing any personal items into the exam area. Once you are seated in the exam area, be prepared to take a brief on-screen tutorial which explains the keyboard, rules about changing answers, and completing the exam. Pencils and scratch paper or a notepad will be provided for you.
